How much does a dirty soda bar cost in Austin? (what other vendors publish)

"So what does it cost?" is a fair question, and it deserves a straight answer. We do not publish a rate card, because a Sunday baby shower for 40 and a Saturday wedding for 250 are very different events. But we do not want to leave you without a reference point either. So we did the homework: we pulled the public pricing from six soda bar and mobile bar companies, and we will walk through what moves the price so you can budget with real information.

What do other dirty soda bars publish for pricing?

Six vendors publish enough to compare. Here they are, side by side, exactly as their websites list them at the time we checked. None of these are our prices; they are a reference point.

A few things jump out. The Utah vendors sit at the low end per person. The one Texas vendor on the list, Texas Southern Sips, publishes a higher per-person start and charges staffing separately. And two of the six (Swig's smaller package and drty drip) do what we do: quote by event.

What drives the cost of a dirty soda bar?

Five things drive the cost: guest count, hours of service, staffing, add-ons, and travel. Every vendor above prices some combination of them; they just package it differently.

Guest count (or drink count)

This is the biggest lever. Some vendors price per guest (Thirst, Behind the Bar, Texas Southern Sips). Others price per drink (Swig's 175-drink Signature Service, Mix Master's 40-drink base, drty drip's 50 to 300 drink tiers). Per-drink models matter for events where not everyone will order, like a dealership open house with foot traffic, while per-guest models make sense at a wedding where nearly everyone visits the bar.

Notice the volume discounts. Behind the Bar drops from $4.00 to $3.00 per person as headcount climbs from 100 to 500-plus. Mix Master offers a volume discount at 100-plus drinks. Bigger events cost more in total and less per cup.

Hours of service

Two to three hours is the window these vendors publish. Thirst includes three hours and charges $75 per additional hour. Behind the Bar includes two hours and prices extended time per person. Swig's Signature Service is "up to 3 hours." If your reception runs five hours, ask whether the bar needs to be open the whole time or whether a cocktail-hour-plus-dessert window covers it. A shorter window can save money.

Staffing

A soda bar is a real bar with real people behind it. Swig staffs one person on its Classic Service and two on Signature. drty drip staffs two to three "Drip Tenders" depending on package. Texas Southern Sips itemizes staffing at $40 per hour per bartender with a ratio of one per 75 guests. More guests means more hands, which means more cost, but it also means shorter lines.

Add-ons

This is where the fun is, and where budgets can grow. Behind the Bar publishes a menu of upgrades: a "Personalized Soda Experience" for $200, an expanded menu for $100, a bonus mini menu for $75, and a signature bar upgrade for $150. Mix Master charges $1.50 per drink for boba. Swig's school delivery program charges $0.50 more per drink to jump from 24 oz to 32 oz cups. Custom drinks, branded cups, cold foam, fresh fruit, and larger sizes all live in this bucket.

Travel

Most of these vendors include a service radius and charge past it. Mix Master spells its formula out: 20 miles round trip included, then $1 per mile. Swig notes that "travel fees may apply" on its Classic Service. Behind the Bar lists "Out-of-Area Service" as "Varies." For Austin, this means a venue in Dripping Springs, Georgetown, or Bastrop may carry a travel line that a downtown venue does not. Ask early, and give the vendor the venue address rather than just the city, because a ranch wedding an hour out is a very different drive than a hotel ballroom on Congress.

What is usually included in a soda bar package?

Nearly every vendor bundles the same core: setup, cleanup, a staffed bar, ice, cups, straws, a printed menu, and a set service window or drink count. Here is what the published packages list:

• Swig On Site: setup, cleanup, branded cups, lids and straws, a personalized menu, four soda bases, six flavor add-ins, one fresh fruit, and one cream option, with 16 oz drinks.
• Thirst Drinks: three hours of serving, unlimited refills, serving supplies, a menu, a trash can, and up to two custom drinks.
• Behind the Bar: a choice of two signature menus, two hours of service, unlimited refills, with a separate premium Italian soda package finished with whipped cream.
• drty drip: professional setup, ice, cups, garnishes, on-site service by certified staff, and three to six menu items depending on the package.
• Mix Master Dirty Pop: two hours, 40 drinks, and one custom creation, with a self-serve "Dirty Soda Bar" option at $9 per person that ships with syrups, creamer, ice, and cups.

What is often not included: gratuity (Thirst adds 15%), tax, extra hours, travel, and premium add-ons. When you compare quotes, line these up before you compare the headline price.

How does a soda bar compare to a cocktail bar on cost?

A soda bar is typically the less expensive option because there is no alcohol to purchase, no liquor liability insurance to price in, and often lighter staffing. Texas Southern Sips is a useful apples-to-apples example because it publishes both: its dirty soda bar starts at $6.50 per person, its signature cocktail service starts at $7.00, and its full bar service starts at $9.00, plus $40 per hour per TABC-certified bartender for any of them.

That gap is before alcohol. Many Texas mobile bartenders operate on a "dry hire" model where the host buys the alcohol separately, so the real cost of a cocktail bar is the bartending fee plus the liquor bill plus mixers plus insurance. For a dry wedding, a shower, a school event, or a corporate daytime event, the soda bar is usually the less expensive option, and it is the one built for that room.

How can you keep a dirty soda bar within budget?

You can keep a soda bar within budget by right-sizing the service window, being realistic about headcount, and picking add-ons that show up in photos. Here is our rule of thumb:

1. Count the guests likely to visit the bar, not the invite list
2. Pick a two to three hour window that overlaps the moment (cocktail hour, dessert, the pool party peak)
3. Choose three or four signature drinks plus build-your-own instead of a giant menu
4. Add one custom named drink; it is a low-cost upgrade that shows up in photos
5. Ask about travel and gratuity up front so the quote is the invoice

A couple of Austin-specific notes. Summer events benefit from shade for the bar; it protects the cream and the staff. And if your venue has a corkage or outside-vendor policy, ask whether it applies to alcohol-free vendors.
